Cronton College celebrates Olympic link

A WORLD transplant gold medallist has been chosen as an Olympic torch bearer.
Jade Carr, aged 18, of Clifton Road, Runcorn, is a sports student at Cronton Sixth Form College, which was this week named as a ‘Get Set’ Olympic college.
She joined paralympian Mark Eccleston, who works with Halton schoolchildren, to unveil an official plaque.
Mark competed in the Atlanta and Athens Paralympics.
Jade, who had a heart transplant when she was three, has won a galaxy of gold medals after competing in the World Transplant Games.
She won her first medals in a welly throw and 25 metre race just four months after her lifesaving surgery.
The London organising committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games awarded the honour to acknowledge Cronton College’s involvement in the London 2012 education programme.
Sebastian Coe, games chairman, said: “I am proud to welcome Cronton College into the Get Set network for their exciting work around the Olympic values of friendship, excellence and respect and the Paralympic values of inspiration, courage, determination and equality.”
Ben Barton, head of the centre of sporting excellence at Cronton, said: “It was fantastic to receive this award.
“Our students have made some fantastic sporting achievements, including Jade, who is studying the extended diploma in sport.
“She has been nominated to carry the Olympic Torch through the region in June, 2012.
“We wish Jade luck with her nomination.”
